Penn Entertainment to break ground for M Resort room tower

There will be a ceremony as well to commemorate the occasion.

M Resorts will break ground on its $206m 384-room resort tower on December 11, according to a local report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The company will also hold a groundbreaking event with several notable attendees, including M Resort Spa Casino VP and General Manager Hussain Mahrous, M VP of Marketing Patrick Durkin and Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero.

Penn Entertainment representatives, along with personnel for Marnell Construction are also expected to attend. The company acquired The M in 2011, just two years after the destination’s debut.

Penn said it plans to release renderings for the project. Renovations at The M are part of a larger $850m expansion project that includes other Penn properties in Nevada, Illinois and Ohio.

Penn Entertainment held a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week for another land-based casino project. The company, in partnership with the city of Aurora, Illinois, recently broke ground on the future Hollywood Casino Aurora.

The new destination will replace the current riverboat casino.

The current location for Hollywood Casino Aurora on the Fox River downtown will continue its normal operating hours during construction of its land-based counterpart. The project is expected to take nearly two years to complete.

The company also recently launched ESPN Bet, its US sportsbook, which offers sports fans access to “custom content identity to live across the entire ESPN ecosystem, inclusive but not limited to in-app, digital, social and programming.”

The brand’s formation is a result of a recent partnership between Penn Entertainment and ESPN. Penn Entertainment rebranded its existing sportsbook, which is currently licensed in 16 US states, to form the ESPN Bet name.
