The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) has reported its October 2023 casino revenue results, with overall adjusted gross revenue (AGR) of $136.3m. This is down slightly from September 2023’s AGR of $144.2m, and also down annually from October 2022’s AGR of $145.8m.
Table game revenue specifically reached $12.8m in October 2023, down annually from $14.9m, while slot revenue reached $123.5m down annually from $130.9m. The number of table games also decreased from 459 in October 2022 to 438 in October 2023, as did the number of slot machines from 14,652 to 14,404.
The top three Iowa casinos that generated the most AGR in October were: Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino with $19m (down 3.2% annually, but still the top property); Ameristar II with $14.5m (down 2.1% annually, though up to second place); and Horseshoe Casino Council Bluffs with $13.9m (down 20.2% annually from the second to third place spot).
By table game, blackjack brought in the highest individual revenue of $4.4m, followed by craps with $1.8m and electronic table games with $1.5m. Blackjack rose year-on-year from $4.2m in 2022, craps fell slightly from $1.9m annually and electronic table games fell more dramatically, as they made just under $2m in October 2022.
The most lucrative slots were $2 slots, which generated $9.6m (down annually from $10.9m), followed by $1 slots which generated $5.6m (down annually from $5.8m) and 25¢ slots which generated $3.9m (up annually from $3.5m).
The casinos that made the most revenue from table games were Horseshoe Casino Council Bluffs ($1.9m), Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino ($1.6m), Ameristar II ($1.5m) and Riverside Casino and Golf resort ($998,246). The casinos that made the most revenue from slots were Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino ($17.4m), Ameristar II ($12.9m), Horseshoe Casino Council Bluffs ($11.9m) and Riverside Casino and Golf Resort ($9.4m).
