Kentucky players have stepped up to the plate during the past few weeks since the online sports betting market opened at the end of September.
Players have placed nearly $250m in wagers since the launch of both the online and retail markets, according to a recent preliminary report from Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear’s office.
Retail sports betting accounted for $15.7m of the overall total, while online and mobile betting contributed the remaining $232.3m, according to the preliminary figures.
Close to 500,000 new online accounts have been created through mobile sports betting apps since the launch as well.
Kentucky opened its regulated online sports betting market on September 28, weeks after its retail sports betting launch on September 7.
During its first month live, in-person sports wagering raked in close to $10m in bets, the governor said.
Within its first few days live, online sports betting generated more than $68m in wagers from players statewide.
Governor Beshear described achieving the $250m milestone as a win for the state.
He commented, “Kentucky is approaching $250 million wagered. That is a strong number that certainly reflects excitement for the opening of sports wagering. It has taken many years to get here, but sports wagering is finally a reality in Kentucky.
“This is a win-win for Kentuckians, who can enjoy a quality entertainment experience and benefit from funds staying right here in our state to help us build a better Kentucky.”
Kentucky Horse Racing Commission Chairman Jonathan Rabinowitz noted that the organization has received favorable feedback from operators and players alike.
He elaborated further by saying, “We are hearing very positive feedback from both our licensees and people wagering in Kentucky.
“Thanks to the dedication and hard work of the team, this launch has exceeded our expectations. Our work continues to protect the bettors in the state and support the best customer experience.”
