Pennsylvania’s Mount Airy Casino Resort has donated truckloads of linens to a local animal shelter. The resort said that because it often replaces sheets, pillowcases and comforters, this leads to an accumulation of gently used linens available for donation.
Mount Airy Casino Resort’s donations have gone to help animals like Cher, a Cane Corso Mastiff currently residing at Camp Papillon.
Used bedding and towels from the hotel industry have contributed to America’s landfills on an annual basis, to the tune of 17 million tons of textile waste, according to the latest figures.
Mount Airy COO and General Manager Ben Koff spoke about the resort’s commitment to taking care of its surrounding community and supporting its neighbors.
Koff said: "Giving back to our community has always been important at Mount Airy Casino Resort. Our neighbors have supported us, and we believe in supporting them.
"Finding a way to reuse these quality linens while helping those in need represents Mount Airy's dedication to regional nonprofits and our commitment to serving as responsible stewards of the environment."
Camp Papillon Voice President Felicia Katz said that the non-profit, no-kill animal shelter “has dozens of rescue dogs in need of comfort and warmth, especially during the cold winter months” and noted the contribution Mount Airy has made to take care of the animals.
Katz commented: "Mount Airy has provided us with items we cannot afford, soft bedding and towels to dry animals after their baths.
"These linens foster relaxation and alleviate some of the stress that animals may experience when confined to a shelter. We know firsthand that calm animals are more adoptable animals."
