The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians has signed on as the official sponsor of the American Express (PGA) golf tournament, in an agreement that extends to 2028. The tournament will take place at PGA West’s Stadium, Nicklaus Tournament Courses and La Quinta Country Club in Quinta, California, from January 16-22.
The Twenty-Nine Palms Band will be the official Tribal Casino and Hotel Sponsor as well as the exclusive volunteer sponsor on the courses and in hospitality areas throughout the tournament. The agreement provides branding for over 1,200 volunteers, with the Tribe’s Spotlight 29 Casino logo displayed across all volunteer platforms.
Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians Chairman Darrell Mike commented: “This event has always been a community-driven tournament, and we feel fortunate to be able to help support the more than 1,200 volunteers who make the week run smoothly.
“We are thrilled to be able to be a part of this time-honored tradition.”
The week-long event includes a three-day pro-am event and the sixth-annual American Express Concert Series featuring acts such as Gwen Stefani and Darius Rucker.
American Express has set a mission to undertake philanthropic activity in the Coachella Valley area of California, where the tournament is being held. It is doing this by way of donations through its organization, Impact Through Golf.
This charity provides funding to organizations that support health and wellness, youth sports, family support, education and homelessness. Since its inception as the Palm Springs Golf Classic in 1960, the event has donated more than $64m to local non-profits in the area.
A Chemehuevi people, the Tribe’s lands now consist of two Reservations, which are located near the town of Twentynine Palms and the City of Coachella. It operates the Tortoise Rock Casino and Spotlight 29 Casino on its sovereign lands.
