The Delaware-based venue installed IGT’s Advantage management system in May.

The Harrington Raceway & Casino, Delaware, is temporarily closed due to ‘technical difficulties,’ which were first reported on Tuesday. An automated message told prospective visitors that the facility would not be open for Wednesday’s first shift and that employees would be on ‘standby’ for the second and evening shifts.

Later on in the day, the casino’s social media page informed Delawareans it would not be re-opening the premises for the entire day. This raises concerns over the ability of the casino to hold a New Year’s celebration it has scheduled for 9:30PM Saturday.

Operators directed calls on Wednesday to Executive Administrative Assistant Nicole Boone, who has thus far not commented on the temporary closure of the Harrington.

Inquiries have begun as to the nature of the technical difficulties. In May, the Harrington upgraded its gaming floor to the latest iteration of the IGT Advantage casino management system.

IGT Advantage is touted to enable more flexibility for gaming machines and improve performance through real-time floor updates. Additionally, it should allow Harrington to offer personalized in-game offers, bonuses, rewards and mobile loyalty cards.

While it is speculated that the technical difficulties stem from the IGT Advantage system, a spokesperson from IGT declined to comment on the situation.

Harrington Raceway & Casino is located in Harrington, Delaware and is one of the oldest tracks in the US; it has sponsored a meet every single year since it opened its doors in 1946. The casino houses 1,400 slots, a multitude of table games and a simulcast parlor.
