The company has expanded its historical horseracing footprint to four US states.

Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) has closed its previously announced purchase of New Hampshire’s Chasers Poker Room. The New Hampshire Lottery Commission recently approved the transaction.

Chasers, located in Salem, sits about 30 minutes away from downtown Boston. The venue offers players a variety of poker and table games. CDI plans to invest an estimated total of $150m into a project to build a charitable gaming facility in Salem. The company will add historical racing machines (HRMs) and create up to 800 gaming positions.

New Hampshire is the fourth state to feature CDI’s HRMs. In addition to its presence in New Hampshire, the company plans to operate in Virginia and Louisiana, pending the closing of the acquisition of Peninsula Pacific Entertainment and the completion of HRM expansion plans for CDI’s 14 off-track betting facilities.

The purchase agreement is expected to complete by the end of this year, pending approvals from the Virginia Racing Commission, the New York State Gaming Commission and the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission.

CDI CEO Bill Carstanjen said the company looks forward to bringing its operations to New Hampshire.

He commented: “We are excited to build upon the success of Chasers with CDI’s proven excellence in historical horseracing operations and a state-of-the-art new facility.

“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to meaningfully support nonprofits in New Hampshire as the leading gaming operator in charitable contributions.”

CDI is a racing, online wagering and gaming entertainment company. It currently operates historical racing machines in Kentucky.

CDI is also the host of the annual Kentucky Derby.
