The Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Albany, New York, is offering employee-subsidized housing with rents at $550 per month for chefs, cooks, table game dealers and hospitality workers. Hiring managers will be coming to Albany on August 23 to recruit new employees, with qualified candidates set to get hired on the spot.
The recruitment push comes as Turning Stone, owned and operated by the Oneida Indian Nation, expands, having made 400 new positions available since January. The casino says that its new apartment complex will be New York’s first-ever employee community.
The project has been dubbed ‘The Villages at Stoney Creek’ and it will comprise 50 apartments, with each home including in-unit laundry, parking spaces and round-trip shuttle services to Turning Stone.
Subsidized monthly rents are $550 for a one-bedroom; $650 for a two-bedroom and $750 for a three-bedroom abode. Turning Stone will also be offering a 401(k) plan, healthcare and tuition reimbursement.
Oneida Indian Nation Representative and Enterprises CEO, Ray Halbritter commented: “The Villages at Stoney Creek is a great opportunity to put new employees in a position to launch new careers, while also building up some savings in the process.”
The hiring event in Albany will run from 10AM to 4PM on August 23, at the Albany Capital Center. Turning Stone is hopeful that the cheap rent will entice many applicants; an average rent survey showed that those moving from Rochester to Albany could save $8,400 – $9,000.
Since opening three decades ago, Turning Stone has expanded to include five hotels, two spas, five golf courses, a 5,000-seat arena and numerous nightlife venues. Its rural location off of the state thruway makes affordable housing and commuting an issue though, one the casino is hoping to remedy with this subsidization offer.
