The casino has also placed donation boxes throughout its venue.

Delaware Park Casino & Racing has donated $10,000 to Meals on Wheels Delaware (MOWD). The casino said it received contributions from its guests for a period of two months this summer and cut a check to MOWD once all donations were collected.

Delaware Park Casino & Racing said in a statement: “During the months of June and July, Delaware Park’s charitable guests contributed to Meals on Wheels Delaware, with Delaware Park Casino & Racing making a considerable donation for the grand total of $10,000.”

Meals on Wheels Delaware is a charitable organization that supports homebound seniors throughout the state. During 2021, MOWD provided more than 898,000 hot meals to Delaware seniors, specifically “Delawareans 60 years and older live alone, are unable to shop for themselves and live on a fixed income.”

Last year, the organizations 1,000 volunteers helped deliver meals to 6,000 elderly homebound residents. Last year, the organizations 1,000 volunteers helped deliver meals to 6,000 elderly homebound residents.

In addition to meal delivery, MOWD raises funds, as well as other resources to combat hunger among the state’s senior population. MOWD works to raise community awareness by educating the public about what is needed and what citizens can do to help.

Delaware Park President & General Manager Ron Baumann stressed the importance of helping the community and thanked casino guests for stepping up to help those in need.

He said: “It is an unfortunate reality that many homebound seniors don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Thanks to the generosity of our guests, we can help those who may be struggling."

The casino does not plan to cease its charitable giving. Each month, Delaware Park will collect donations to support different local charities.

The company stated: “This is the first monetary donation presentation stemming from a new community initiative that will feature a different organization each month.”
