Station Casinos to build $750m casino hotel in Las Vegas suburbs

The new Durango project is going up on the former Castaways site.
Station Casinos has started its latest construction project in the Las Vegas suburbs. The new casino hotel will sit on what was Castaways and will cost nearly $750m to build.
The Durango casino hotel is expected to be a smaller facility than Station’s typical Wildfire casinos. However, the project will sit on close to 50 acres. An adjacent 21 acres will be held for sale.
Station purchased the Durango site in 2004 but did not break ground on the new resort earlier this year.
Once completed, Durango will be comprised of approximately 533,000 square feet and will be home to more than 73,000 square feet of casino space. According to a securities filing, the hotel will have more than 200 rooms as well as several restaurants.
Station operates several Wildfire-branded casinos in the valley, including on Rancho Drive less than two miles from North Las Vegas Airport. The company also owns about 315 acres of land held for development in the region. This includes 71 acres at Durango Drive and the 215 Beltway and the five acres on Fremont Street, according to a securities filing.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board recently filed a two-count, 13-page complaint last September against Station and its parent company, Red Rock Resorts.
The commission fined Red Rock Resorts and Station Casinos Inc. $80,000 for sports wagering violations. The fine was approved by unanimous vote, following a hearing that lasted about 30 minutes.
According to the commission, Station Casinos did not stop its sportsbook app from taking in wagers after events had already concluded.
Station did not deny or confirm any of the allegations.
