Wynn Resorts recently issued its ESG (environmental, social and governance) report which defines the company's important milestones in 2021. The report provides insight into key initiatives including Wynn Resort's continued commitment to decrease emissions and promote environmental sustainability.
The report included details about its enhanced diversity and inclusion program, a comprehensive human trafficking prevention program, and transformative investments in local communities.
The Wynn Resorts sustainability program, known as Goldleaf, provides scientific solutions to the wide range of environmental and climate-related challenges that are unique to each resort. In 2020, the company outlined definitive corporate sustainability goals, aligned with the recommendations made by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
These recommendations include plans to be net-zero by 2050 and to reduce or offset all carbon dioxide (CO2) produced by its operations by no later than 2050. Wynn Resorts also plans to stop and reverse the year-over-year growth of operational CO2 emissions by 2030 and double renewable energy procurement by 2030.
The company has so far reported success in key metrics judging its environmental initiatives. It reduced water consumption by 16% (relative to 2019), invested in smart technologies, controlled and repaired leaks, metered water use on a functional basis and aligned practices across its portfolio of resorts.
Furthermore, its Encore Boston Harbor resort receives 100% of its purchased electricity from renewable sources of power, with an on-site microgrid balancing solar energy production, combined heat and power co-generation, and utility-scale battery storage.
As a testament to its environmental efforts, the company was recognized with the Global Vision Award by Travel + Leisure magazine.
