Along with World Central Kitchen and the Nevada Restaurant Association, Sahara Las Vegas plans to provide 300 meals a day to feed healthcare workers tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sahara Las Vegas is home to Andres’ Bazaar Meat restaurant, and the hotel-casino is drawing on its food and beverage resources to feed healthcare workers at OptumCare’s clinics, medical offices, and home health and hospice facilities in the Las Vegas metropolitan area.
The team behind the effort includes Bazaar Meat executive chef Alex Pitts, along with other Sahara culinary leaders. Restaurants at Sahara Las Vegas include Northside Café & Chinese Kitchen, Uno Mas Street Tacos & Spirits and Bella Bistro.
“Healthcare workers around the world and right here in our community have been working under unprecedented and difficult conditions,” Anthony Olheiser, vice president of food and beverage for Sahara Las Vegas, said in a statement announcing the effort. “We have an incredible partnership with Chef José Andrés (pictured) and his Think Food Group, and we are excited to be collaborating with Chef Andrés’ nonprofit organization, World Central Kitchen, to deliver fresh, hot meals to those on the front lines.”
The effort launched April 20, with 1,500 meals delivered in the first five-day period.
