Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman received widespread condemnation for calling on Las Vegas to reopen during a CNN interview.
Goodman told Anderson Cooper: “I want everything back. We’ve never closed down Nevada, we’ve never closed down Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world where everything’s clean.
“We would never have gotten to the point we are now as the center for entertainment and conventions, and sports and everything else without being clean.”
When Cooper posed to Goodman the health risks of opening casinos amid COVID-19, she dismissed him as an “alarmist.”
Goodman evaded responsibility for how casinos should reopen.
She said:“That’s up to them to figure out. I don’t own a casino. I don’t know anything about building a casino.”
Goodman’s comments drew plenty of criticism on Twitter including from popular late night host Jimmy Kimmel, a native of Las Vegas.
Kimmel wrote: “The @mayoroflasvegas Carolyn Goodman should resign before lunch arrives today. She is an embarrassment to my hometown.”
