Rhode Island sportsbook handle reaches $42.1m during February
The state had a drop in revenue compared to January, something common to other states.
Rhode Island sportsbooks brought in a combined revenue of more than $42.1m during the month of February. Numbers for last month dropped from the totals for January, but February still held as a strong month for the state.
In a breakdown of the total, online wagers brought in the bulk of last month’s handle, generating $23.4m in revenue, while Twin River brought in almost $14.4m and Tiverton Casino almost $4.4m.
Sportsbooks have been operating in Rhode Island since July 2021. In the eight months since the state has been live, the largest handle was in October at $60.1m. January was a close second with more than $58.6m.
The drop in revenue is not isolated only to Rhode Island. Other states saw drops in their total handles during February, including Michigan and Indiana.
Bettors statewide did well last month. Total winnings paid out during the month of February came to a total of $38.6m.
Twin River paid out more than $13m in winnings, and Tiverton Casino paid its winners almost $4.1m. Those who placed online wagers cleaned up as well. Bettors placing online wagers walked away with more than $21.5m.
October 2021 still leads as the highest amount paid out to winners since the state has been live. Bettors in October raked in more than $56.5m in total winnings.
The state’s total handle since July 2021 has reached $355.9m. Online wagering led with a $191.7m total handle. Twin River and Tiverton Casino followed with total handles of $123m and $41.2m respectively.
