Technology due to be replaced across the board in the coming years.

International Game Technology’s (IGT) subsidiary, IGT Global Solutions Corporation, has extended its agreement with the Rhode Island Lottery for 20 years. The next stage of the partnership is due to expire on June 30, 2043.

Per the terms of the agreement, IGT serves as the exclusive supplier for a range of services tangential to the state’s lottery. These include lottery, iLottery, instant ticket, and video lottery solutions, services and technology.

Additionally, IGT has expressed its commitment to maintaining the 1,100 jobs that it supports in the Ocean State.

Upgrades are in order, too, for the IGT technology that already exists. Rhode Island’s draw-based lottery system will be replaced by IGT’s Aurora. According to the terms of the agreement, this technology will be replaced again in 2033.

The state’s iLottery system is also expected to be updated in 2023, and its video lottery central system is going to be replaced in 2025.

The extension is indicative of overall satisfaction with the partnership.

Mark Furcolo, Rhode Island Lottery Director, intimated as much in his comments: “The Rhode Island Lottery has partnered with IGT since the early days of both businesses and has benefitted from piloting numbers IGT innovations over the years, including exciting iLottery solutions and sophisticated new ways of ticket printing that are now part of our growing portfolio.”

IGT Chief Operating Officer, Global Lottery Jay Gendron echoed these sentiments: “IGT’s good jobs and great people are the foundation of our success and one of the reasons why we have been able to support the Lottery in its continued evolution throughout our decades-long partnership.”
