Delaware sportsbooks have had a strong month during January, compared to December 2021’s handle. Last month’s handle saw a 12% bump from the prior month’s total.

Delaware players walked away with $765,092 in winnings last month, with Delaware Park grabbing the top spot as the state’s leading operator.

Dover Downs ranked second, and Harrington Raceway ranked third during January.

Delaware Park bettors placed a total of $4.2m in wagers, while players at Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway placed total bets of $2.3m and $1.8m respectively.

Of the total winnings, $391,335 were from Delaware Park, $214,703 from Dover Downs and $159,054 from Harrington Raceway.

Track commission for the month yielded a total of $306,854, accounting for 40.1% of the monthly revenue. Of the total, $158,099 went to Delaware Park, $85,452 to Dover Downs and $63,303 to Harrington Raceway.

Purse increases accounted for around 9.9% of January’s total, or $75,691. Delaware Park accounted for $37,568 of the total, with $21,900 for Dover Downs and $16,223 for Harrington Raceway.

Though last month saw increases from last December’s $296,809 revenue, numbers were down for January 2022 compared to this time last year. Sportsbook revenue generated $1.7m during January 2021, which was the year’s second highest total. October 2021 remains the highest month for the state, with a $12.2m handle.

This is in stark contrast to online gaming numbers for the month, which saw an upward trend compared to last year. Total online wagers last month amounted to more than $29.2m.
