Station Casinos to pay interns $15 an hour amid continued labor shortages

This marks the second year of the operator’s internship program.

Station Casinos, a prominent Las Vegas-based casino operator, is offering interns $15 per hour, free accommodation and the opportunity to work in a number of roles across its properties, as the hospitality industry continues attempts to recover from labor shortages.

This marks the second year of the family-owned operator’s internship program. Throughout applicants’ 12 week stay with the company, they will work in a number of departments, including social media, casino operations, the gaming floor and finance.

Available exclusively to college students over the age of 21, the selection process is decided via a series of interviews conducted on Zoom.

Speaking to Business Insider, Deborah Ferris, Vice President of Training for Station Casinos, said: "What we're looking for is interns that have curiosity, to learn more, to do more, to experience Las Vegas and to step outside of their comfort zone."

Last year, over 2,000 students applied for the role, with 11 being selected.

This comes amid reports that the Las Vegas strip is still facing labor shortages caused, in part, by the Covid-19 pandemic. Indeed, despite automated and mobile gaming becoming far more popular in the last 18 months, there are still concerns among operators regarding the issue.

Recently, Station Casinos proposed a new casino project named the Wildfire Casino. This one-story property is set to be located at 2700 Fremont St, south of Charleston Boulevard.

Presently, the company owns about 315 acres of land held for development in the region. This includes 71 acres at Durango Drive and the 215 Beltway and the five acres on Fremont Street, according to a securities filing.
