Ben Murr named President of TwinSpires and Online Gaming at Churchill Downs

Murr has spent 14 years with Churchill Downs Incorporated.

Ben Murr is set to take on the role of President of TwinSpires and Online Gaming at Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI). Murr, who has worked with the operator for 14 years, will be responsible for the overarching strategy and operations of these businesses. 

While with CDI, Murr has held a number of leadership positions, including President of United Tote, Senior Vice President, and Chief Technology Officer. Presently, Murr has been serving in his new role in an interim capacity. 

“During his tenure with CDI, Ben has been an important leader in the growth across our operations,” said William Carstanjen, CEO of CDI, praisingly. 

“He has been a key player throughout the extensive changes in our company over the last 14 years and will continue to move our TwinSpires and Online businesses forward.”

Before joining Churchill Downs, Murr held a number of positions at the information technology firm General Electric. The President holds a Bachelor's degree in economics as well as a Masters of business administration, both from Bellarmine University. 

“I’ve been heavily involved with TwinSpires and our Online Gaming operations throughout my tenure at CDI,” added Murr. “I am passionate about these businesses and believe strongly in their future growth potential and strategic importance for CDI.”

Murr will retain his position as Senior Vice President until a suitable replacement can be identified. 

Churchill Downs is one of the largest gaming operators in the United States, owning the famed Kentucky Derby. TwinSpires is the brand’s sports betting and iGaming arm; the company operates eight retail sportsbooks.
