Station Casinos pitches a new downtown casino project

The company has proposed building a new casino just south of Charleston Boulevard.

Station Casinos proposed a new project to build Wildfire Casino, a one-story property that would be located at 2700 Fremont St., just south of Charleston Boulevard. The casino would span more than 21,000 square feet and sit on a five-acre plot, according to city documents.

This is in addition to breaking ground around the corner for Station’s newest Vegas resort.

Station owns big tracts of real estate around the valley that are stored for future resort projects, something that sets the company apart from other casino operators in the area.

“Right now as you can see we’re kind of in the development mode,” Lorenzo Fertitta, vice chairman of Station parent, Red Rock Resorts, said.

Management has said it wants to double its presence in the region. Red Rock Resorts Chairman and CEO, Frank Fertitta III, echoed this sentiment.

“We’re going to continue to look at each one of the development sites here in Vegas as we roll forward, try to build out the portfolio, double the footprint here in Las Vegas,” he said.

Station operates several Wildfire-branded casinos in the valley, including on Rancho Drive less than two miles from North Las Vegas Airport. The company also owns about 315 acres of land held for development in the region. This includes 71 acres at Durango Drive and the 215 Beltway and the five acres on Fremont Street, according to a securities filing.

The Las Vegas Planning Commission is scheduled to meet today to consider the proposal.
