Cirque shows continue to reopen in Las Vegas

Michael Jackson ONE returned Thursday, The Beatles LOVE is back August 26.
One of the many business casualties from the Covid-19 pandemic was the large production shows on the Las Vegas Strip – but those are slowly making a comeback.
Canadian production company Cirque Du Soleil Entertainment Group is well known for its acrobatic musicals, which appear at numerous Vegas resorts and employ thousands of performers and backstage staff. Earlier this summer, Cirque reopened “O” at Bellagio Hotel and Casino, and Mystere at Treasure Island.
On Thursday, after being shuttered for 17 months, Michael Jackson ONE finally lifted the curtain at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
According to a statement released Friday by Cirque, the return show of ONE drew a sold-out audience.
“After the show concluded, the world-class cast was met with a roaring applause and well-deserved standing ovation from the ecstatic crowd commemorating the groundbreaking performance,” Cirque said. “Following the grand finale, Daniel Lamarre, president and CEO of Cirque du Soleil, met the cast on stage to congratulate the team on their successful return, helmed by Jamie King, writer and director for Michael Jackson ONE.”
The company noted the production returned in time for Jackson’s birthday on August 29.
ONE is scheduled to perform Thursday through Monday at 7 p.m., with a 9:30 p.m. show running on select days.
The next Cirque show slated to return is The Beatles LOVE, which will reopen at the Mirage Hotel and Casino on August 26.
LOVE is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. It originally bowed on June 30, 2006.
A Cirque du Soleil creation and co-production with Apple Corps Ltd. and MGM Resorts International, LOVE celebrates the musical legacy of The Beatles. The show features a cast of 70 artists. LOVE has performed to more than 10m audience members and has been honored with three Grammy Awards since it opened.
LOVE is scheduled to perform Thursday through Monday at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. through October 2, and Tuesday through Saturday at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. beginning October 5.
