Nevada Gaming Control Board confirms Covid-19 restrictions will expire June 1
The Nevada Gaming Control Board sent a notice to all gaming licensees Wednesday that it will rescind all Covid-19 restrictions effective 12:00 a.m. June 1.
Casinos will no longer be forced to impose capacity limits or require social distancing. Non-vaccinated guests are still expected to wear face masks, though most casinos are using an honor system to mandate mask wearing.
“As of June 1, 2021, none of Nevada’s counties will retain social distancing or occupancy limitations that would apply to a gaming licensee. If the status of the spread of COVID-19 changes in such a way that a county amends its Local Plan, the Board expects each licensee to fully comply with such changes,” GCB Chair J. Brin Gibson wrote.
Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak previously signed a directive allowing businesses to reopen to full capacity on June 1.
The GCB’s ruling ends nearly 12 months of Covid-19 restrictions enforced upon the state’s gaming establishments.
Several Las Vegas casinos have already returned to 100% capacity after securing a waiver from the GCB upon vaccinating 80% or more of their work force.
In the last two weeks casinos have ended mask mandates for guests and employees who have been vaccinated.
The formal relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions will come at the tail end of Memorial Day weekend, which is expected to bring tens of thousands of out-of-town tourists to Las Vegas.
