Maryland’s six casinos reported $162m of revenue in April, the third-best month in state history.

Revenue was up 11.6% compared to April 2019 according to the figures released by the Maryland Lottery. Casinos were closed in April 2020 amidst the surging Covid-19 pandemic.

The state will receive $70m of the month’s revenue.

Maryland casinos set the all-time earnings record in March with revenue of $169m.

Maryland’s rebound comes despite MGM National Harbor and Horseshoe Casino operating under 50% capacity in accordance with local health orders.

MGM led the state in revenue last month with $62m, up 2.5% from April 2019. Live! Casino & Hotel was a close second with earnings of $58m, an increase of 22% from the same month two years prior.

Horseshoe Casino took in $20m, even with April 2019, while Hollywood Casino was a distant fourth with $8.5m, up 37% from the same month two years prior.

Ocean Downs Casino generated $7.7m, up 30% from April 2019, while Rocky Gap Casino rounded out the state with revenue of $5.7m, up 19% from two years ago.

Last month the Maryland General Assembly approved a sports betting regulatory framework, setting in motion a potential brick-and-mortar sportsbook launch later this year.

Maryland voters approved sports wagering last November.
