The Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA) has appointed Sean Ostrow as its new Managing Director, having previously served as a multi-state contract attorney and strategist for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, helping to lead policy initiatives for Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Basketball Association (NBA).
“I’m thrilled to be joining the…(SGLA) as Managing Director. After 10 years of working to legalize and regulate fantasy sports, sports betting, and iGaming across the country, I’m excited to draw on this experience to help social games continue to thrive while protecting consumers and generating significant economic activity for states,” Ostrow said.
“Social Gaming has been misunderstood for too long, and it’s time for their story to be told fairly. The fact is that online social games that utilize sweepstakes promotions as a marketing tool is an innovative and legally sound approach that emphasizes casual entertainment, while providing the same best-in-class consumer protections.”
In his new role, Ostrow will oversee the Association’s lobbying and public policy initiatives, working with legislators, regulators and stakeholders to ensure online social games with sweepstakes promotions continue to “thrive responsibly.”
“Sean brings a rare combination of deep policy expertise and on-the-ground advocacy experience that will be invaluable to our mission,” SGLA Executive Director Jeff Duncan said.
“His track record of building coalitions and navigating complex legislative environments will help the SGLA strengthen understanding of this industry and ensure responsible innovation continues to flourish.”

Ostrow also served as FanDuel’s Manager of Government Affairs, assisting the operator in advancing fantasy sports legislation in multiple states.
“The demand for online social gaming and entertainment gaming is tremendous, and the SGLA recognizes the value in more clearly codified regulation to ensure that adults can continue to enjoy these games safely and responsibly,” Ostrow continued.
“We are actively working with state legislators and regulators to set high standards that allow good actors to continue to operate social games and sweepstakes promotions, while ensuring that states avail themselves of the significant financial benefits that come with sensible, modern regulation and taxation frameworks.”
The SGLA stated Ostrow’s hiring further strengthens its leadership team while continuing to advance its efforts in promoting responsible innovation, consumer protection and appropriate oversight.
The Association recently hosted its first-ever Online Social Games Expo on October 2 with speakers such as Duncan, Yellow Social Interactive Director Paul Foster and Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW) Executive Product Advisor Derek Brinkman.
