Michigan iGaming And Online Sports Betting Receipts Reach $355.7M In September
Michigan’s regulated online gambling market picked up speed in September. Commercial and tribal operators reported a combined $355.7 million in internet gaming (iGaming) and online sports betting gross receipts for the month, a 5.4% increase from August, according to figures released by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) on October 22.
iGaming accounted for most of that total with $300.2 million in gross receipts, while online sports betting added $55.5 million. In August, the combined figure stood at $337.6 million.
Sports betting handle jumps with football back
The biggest monthly swing came from sports wagering. With the NFL and college football seasons underway, online sports betting handle reached $544.8 million in September, up 64.9% from August.
Adjusted gross receipts (AGR), the figure used for taxation after deductions, totaled $313.04 million across both verticals. That breaks down to $288.15 million from iGaming and $24.89 million from online sports betting.
Month over month, iGaming AGR slipped 0.9% while online sports betting AGR rose 2.9%. The year-over-year picture is far stronger: iGaming AGR was up 18.4% compared with September 2025, and online sports betting AGR climbed 88.2%.
Taxes for the state, Detroit and tribes
Operators paid $62.4 million in taxes and fees to the State of Michigan for September. Of that, $60.6 million came from iGaming and $1.8 million from online sports betting, underlining how heavily the state’s online gambling tax base leans on casino games.
The three Detroit casinos reported $14.0 million in wagering taxes and municipal services fees paid to the City of Detroit, including $13.5 million tied to iGaming and $548,519 tied to online sports betting. Tribal operators reported $8.3 million in payments to their governing bodies.
On the land-based side, the MGCB said in a separate release on October 13 that Detroit’s three commercial casinos generated $103.55 million in September revenue, with MGM holding a 47% market share, MotorCity 32% and Hollywood Casino at Greektown 21%.
A 15-operator market
As of September, 15 commercial and tribal operators were authorized to offer iGaming and/or online sports betting in Michigan. All 15 offer iGaming, and 13 also run online sportsbooks. The MGCB publishes detailed results by operator on its website.
Elsewhere in the regulated online market, earlier this month BetMGM reported Q3 revenue of $710 million as EBITDA more than doubled.
The MGCB also continues to promote player protection tools alongside its revenue reports. Michigan residents can access self-exclusion programs, including the Disassociated Persons List and the Internet Gaming and Sports Betting Responsible Gaming Database, and can claim free gambling blocking software through the board’s partnership with Gamban.
