- Assemblyman Calabrese’s bill would require sweepstakes casinos to fall under the same regulation, licensure, oversight and taxation as iGaming framework
- Within its official statement, the SPGA stated that it “advocates for clear regulations that enable transparent, innovative and responsible social and promotional gaming experiences”
The Social and Promotional Games Association (SPGA) has issued an exclusive statement to Gaming America regarding a potential sweepstakes market forming in New Jersey after Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese introduced a new sweepstakes bill on January 16.
The bill would require sweepstakes casinos to fall under the same regulation, licensure, oversight and taxation as iGaming framework.
“SPGA members are committed to operating responsibly, guided by a comprehensive Code of Conduct that spotlights the compliance, AML and customer safety processes and technologies our member sites have in place, processes and technologies that mirror those employed by traditional real-money online gaming sites,” the SPGA said.
“New Jersey rarely follows when it comes to gaming, and the state is again taking the lead in introducing licensing for a new and popular form of digital entertainment. While social sweepstakes sites operate on a well-established legal model, we applaud and support all attempts by state lawmakers to bring increased regulatory clarity to the category through the legislative process, and we look forward to engaging in that dialogue in New Jersey.”
The SPGA also issued an official statement in response to the introduction of Assemblyman Calabrese’s bill, stating that it “welcomes” the new legislation, and are “advocates for clear regulations that enable transparent, innovative and responsible social and promotional gaming experiences.”

The Association is composed of sweepstakes operators that came together due to the rapid expansion of sweepstake casinos, particularly in 2024, with protecting players and promoting responsible innovation said to be at the forefront of its mission.
“New Jersey is uniquely positioned to support the growth of a diverse range of gaming activities, including social casino games, daily fantasy sports, prediction markets and many more innovative forms of digital gaming. Each of these verticals complements the broader gaming ecosystem, providing entertainment options that appeal to varied player preferences while fostering competition, economic growth and innovation that ultimately benefits the most critical stakeholder: the consumer,” the SPGA said in the exclusive statement.
“We’re proud of our members' role in driving innovation and providing safe, engaging digital entertainment to consumers in New Jersey. As legislation and regulation continue to evolve in New Jersey and beyond, we will remain engaged with policymakers to ensure that millions of American adults can continue to enjoy the games they love to play.”
The SPGA will also be taking part in an upcoming cover feature for the March/April edition of Gaming America, which provides an in-depth look at the regulation and growth of sweepstakes.
