Encore at Wynn to be used as Covid-19 vaccination site
The Encore at Wynn Las Vegas will host a Covid-19 vaccination center beginning next week in partnership with the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada.
The center will open on 18 January and operate Monday through Friday. The facility is located in the Encore’s convention space near the self-parking garage.
“We offered Encore as a vaccination location to help facilitate vaccine distribution as quickly and efficiently as possible throughout the Las Vegas Valley,” said Matt Maddox, CEO of Wynn Resorts. “Our partnership with UMC began with our extensive onsite employee testing program. Based upon the success of that program with UMC, we look forward to hosting this critical step in our state’s economic and health recovery.”
Maddox has been credited with initiating Wynn’s response to Covid-19, including a 27-page reopening plan replicated by others in the industry.
“Everybody was figuring out what to do, everybody was doing something, but nobody was as public and as forward leaning as you were, so I say thank you on behalf of the entire industry,” American Gaming Association Bill Miller said last month in a one-on-one interview with Maddox.
Vaccines will be distributed to eligible residents according to current state guidelines. UMC expects to give out hundreds of vaccines a day and plans to expand hours as the program grows.
The Encore center replaces UMC’s present on-location site.
