Sports wagering: Handle & GGR

Settling just shy of October’s record-breaking monthly wagering handle of $2.32bn - New York has posted another strong handle of $2.27bn for November, a number which represents a 7.8% rise year-over year. Further, this latest wagering handle also represents the second-largest figure posted by the state for the fiscal year 2024/25 so far, bringing the total handle for the period up to $14.8bn.

Regarding GGR, November did, indeed, see New York take the highest figure for the year 2024/25 so far, as the Gaming Commission reported a revenue figure of $231.6m, a significant rise from the figure of $176.3m reported from the month prior. Additionally, this figure marks a notable increase when compared to the now second highest figure of the period, which was the $204.7m GGR recorded in September 2024.

FanDuel once again saw the highest figures for the month of November in New York – recording a sports wagering handle of $921.2m and subsequently earning a GGR figure of $102.6m. Coming in just behind FanDuel was DraftKings, which took $745.4m in wagers during November, resulting in a GGR figure of $77.1m. Despite its high earnings in New York month-after-month, the company reported a net loss of almost $293.7m for Q3 2024.

These two operators continue to set the standard in the state of New York, as third highest-earner Fanatics reported a significantly lower sports wagering handle of $170.2m, alongside a GGR figure of $13.8m.
