Jay Kornegay has announced his retirement from the role of Vice President of Operations at Westgate SuperBook, taking a step back from the organization’s day-to-day business.
Kornegay will remain Westgate SuperBook Vice President of Marketing but has clarified that he is taking some extra time to focus on his personal life; namely to spend time with family and travel.
Over the past 38 years, Kornegay has amassed an impressive roster of experience and is regarded as an influential modern figure in the Las Vegas sportsbook industry. For over 20 years, he has held the official role of Executive Vice President of Racer & Sports Operations at Westgate.
Prior to this, his first job in the industry was at Harrah’s (now Caesars) and Bally’s in Lake Tahoe in the late 1980s, before moving on to become the Imperial Palace Sportsbook Director. Now, he turns over into a new chapter of his career.
Good to know: During his time at Imperial Palace, Kornegay’s team is credited with a range of industry innovations, including drive-thru sportsbook
Commenting on his latest career decision, Kornegay stated, “I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately, especially since I lost a lot of close friends in recent years way too young. I was looking to take a step back from the day-to-day operations and focus on some of the things I’ve been wanting to do for a while, and that is to travel and just spend more time with the family and enjoy what I’ve been working toward for 38 years.”
“I’m still going to be involved. I’m still talking to the guys pretty much on a daily basis. I’m just not doing it in the office anymore. My presence on the property will be limited.”
Replacing Kornegay as VP of Race and Sports is John Murray, who is set to move on from his previous role as Westgate SuperBook Director. In March 2022, Westgate SuperBook came forward to call for an investigation into alleged illegal bets made prior to Tom Brady’s announcement that he would be returning to football. Last year, Gaming America sat down with John Murray to discuss all things Las Vegas sports.
