Las Vegas November visitor volume down 57% y-o-y
Las Vegas attracted 1.5m visitors in November according to figures from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, representing a 57% decline year-on-year.
Visitation also fell 18% from October. Through the first 11 months of 2020, approximately 17.8m people had visited Las Vegas, a drop of 55% y-o-y.
Las Vegas is on track to bring in its fewest number of visitors since 1988.
Total hotel occupancy for November was 39.3%, with weekend occupancy at 55.4% and weekdays at 32.4%. Strip occupancy narrowly outpaced downtown, 38.8% to 35.9%.
Average daily room rate was $94, a y-o-y decline of 30% and a m-o-m drop of 10%. More drastic was the revenue per available room at $37, down 69% from a year ago.
Average daily auto traffic actually grew by 0.7% y-o-y, with 116,000 vehicles traversing Las Vegas highways each day.
A rise in Covid-19 cases around the country contributed to depressed air travel around the Thanksgiving holiday, leading to a precipitous decline in Las Vegas visitors.
December numbers won’t be released until late January but will likely be down as well. The lack of travel to Las Vegas comes at a poor time for Circa Resort, which opened its hotel earlier this week in time for New Year’s Eve.
