CoinPoker’s Battle of Malta Online Pays Out Over $35M as Operator Turns to $50M Global Series
Online poker operator CoinPoker has closed out its Battle of Malta Online festival, reporting that the 23-day series paid out more than $35 million and comfortably cleared its guaranteed prize target. The wrap-up sets the stage for the operator’s next flagship offering, a $50 million Global Online Poker Championship that will begin later in August.
The festival, which ran from July 12 to August 3, featured a $30 million guaranteed schedule. According to figures released by CoinPoker, the event ultimately generated combined prize pools of $35,120,885, exceeding the guarantee by roughly $5.1 million. The operator said the series spanned 764 tournaments and attracted 528,237 entries, excluding satellites. Players received more than 8.1 million hands over the three-plus weeks of play.
CoinPoker also reported a platform milestone during the closing weekend, saying the site passed 25,000 concurrent players for the first time.
Three Main Events Decided on the Final Day
The series opened with a Battle of Malta edition of CoinPoker’s recurring CoinMillion tournament, which carries a $1 million guarantee and a top prize of $121,500.
Organizers awarded three Main Event titles on the final day. A player with the screen name Hemingway won the headline $565 Main Event, emerging from a field of 4,778 entries to take $250,000 from the biggest prize pool of the series, $2,546,674. Hemingway also finished as the top earner across the whole festival, cashing for $304,061.90 across the series.
A player named MarianexBJ won the $55 Main Challenger for a $50,000 prize, while a user by the name of Syn won $10,000 in the $11 Main Crusader event.
CoinPoker also highlighted some of the statistical extremes from the festival. The $11 Main Crusader attracted the largest single field with 11,663 entries. One player called satellitesuper entered 1,633 events, averaging 58 tournaments per day. Two players tied for the most tournament victories with four apiece.
One player also produced a noteworthy satellite run, winning a $5,200 High Roller seat through a satellite before going on to win that same tournament for a $96,547.50 cash.
Providing an Online Version of Popular Live Events
The Battle of Malta brand ranks among the better-known names in live poker, and CoinPoker operates its online edition as a companion to the in-person festival. The operator says it partners with established live poker brands to bring major festivals online while offering routes for players to qualify for those live events. The series put that model on display throughout its run.
CoinPoker awarded 77 trophies during the series and also used the festival as a qualifier for the live Battle of Malta Autumn Edition, which will take place from October 27 to November 4. CoinPoker said it awarded 100 live packages, worth $2,500 apiece, through two routes.
The operator awarded 25 through the three online Main Events and another 75 through a multi-stage promotion. Each package included a €600 Main Event ticket, accommodation, and a travel allowance.
Soon-to-Launch $50 Million Global Series
With Battle of Malta Online now in the books, CoinPoker is turning its attention toward its next big series. That would be the Global Online Poker Championship, which starts on August 23. The operator is presenting that championship as an even bigger undertaking with a $50 million guaranteed schedule.
The championships will feature three regional tournament schedules aligned with prime-time hours in Asia, Europe, and Latin America as their main structural feature. Through this approach, CoinPoker aims to spread events across time zones so players in different regions can compete at more convenient hours.
CoinPoker will also bring back the CoinMillion tournament within this schedule, with a $215 buy-in and a $1 million guarantee. The tournament starts on September 6, while satellites will offer lower-cost entry routes.
