Iowa sportsbooks took in a record $87m for November, a year-on-year improvement of 47^%

Sports betting revenue was $8.1m, down from $9.1m the month prior but up 126% y-o-y. Mobile wagering produced $62m of the handle while mobile revenue was $5.3m.

William Hill’s Prairie Meadows sportsbook outside Des Moines paced the way with $19.2m of handle. The FanDuel Sportsbook at Diamond Jo Dubuque and Worth earned a combined handle of $15.4m, while the DraftKings Sportsbook at Wild Rose Clinton, Jefferson and Emmetsburg cumulatively earned $15.7m of wagers.

Diamond Jo-Worth led all retail sportsbooks with $5.4m of handle, followed by Hors Ameristar II ($5.3m) and Horseshoe Casino Council Bluffs ($4.3m).

The Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission does not break down handle by sport, but the state’s sportsbooks certainly benefited from a strong November by the Iowa State Cyclones football program and the top-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball team.

The Hawkeye State sportsbook market is set to get a little more crowded in 2021 with the addition of 888 Holdings, which operates 888sport domestically.

The company announced last week that it will enter the Iowa, Colorado and Indiana markets next year. It is partnering with Catfish Bend Casino in Burlington, Iowa.
