Bally’s Acquires Sam’s Town Shreveport from Boyd Gaming
Bally’s Corporation has agreed to buy Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino in Shreveport from Boyd Gaming
Bally’s Corporation is doubling down on Shreveport. The gaming company has agreed to acquire Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino directly next door to its existing Louisiana property. The deal will place two adjacent Red River casinos under the same roof for the first time, signaling a clear intent from Bally’s to dominate the regional market.
This marks another move in Bally’s national expansion strategy in states across the US.
Two Neighbors, One Owner
Sam’s Town Shreveport sits directly adjacent to Bally’s Shreveport Casino and Hotel along the west bank of the Red River. Once the deal closes, Bally’s will control both properties simultaneously. That kind of consolidated footprint is rare in a regional gaming market and gives Bally’s significant leverage over customer traffic in the area.
The agreement was announced on February 26. It is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions and required regulatory approvals. Financial terms were not disclosed by either company.
What Bally’s Is Getting
Sam’s Town Shreveport is a substantial property. It includes a 29,000-square-foot casino floor with approximately 750 slot machines and 14 table games. In addition, the property offers a 514-room hotel, multiple restaurants, a live entertainment venue, and convention and meeting space.
Together with Bally’s existing Shreveport operation, the combined footprint would represent one of the most significant gaming complexes in northern Louisiana. Bally’s has signaled that it intends to invest further in both the property and the broader Shreveport community after the acquisition closes.
Soo Kim, executive chairman of Bally’s, was direct about the company’s intentions. “We know this market well and understand what makes it special,” Kim said. “We see meaningful opportunities to reinvest in the market and further strengthen Shreveport’s position as a premier destination for gaming and entertainment.”
Boyd Gaming’s Strategic Exit
For Boyd Gaming, the sale reflects a broader effort to streamline its national portfolio. Sam’s Town Shreveport has been part of Boyd’s holdings since 2004. However, the company has been actively reshaping its asset mix in recent months.
In 2025 alone, Boyd acquired Resorts Digital, the online gaming arm of Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. The company also sold its 5% stake in Flutter Entertainment, the parent company of FanDuel, for $1.75 billion. Boyd is also preparing to open Cadence Crossing in Henderson, Nevada, its first newly built casino in more than 20 years.
Boyd Gaming President and CEO Keith Smith framed the Shreveport sale as consistent with that direction. “The sale of our Sam’s Town Shreveport property is consistent with our continued focus on refining our operating model and our nationwide property portfolio,” Smith said.
A Busy Period for Bally’s
This acquisition is one of several major moves Bally’s has made in quick succession. Just days before the Sam’s Town announcement, Bally’s completed its $156.6 million purchase of city-owned parkland in the Bronx, where it plans to build a $4 billion casino resort after receiving one of three available New York downstate gaming licenses in December.
Bally’s currently operates 19 casinos across 11 U.S. states and one property in the United Kingdom. Its broader portfolio also includes approximately 17,700 slot machines, 630 table games, and 3,950 hotel rooms. The company is also developing an integrated resort in Chicago and holds development rights on the former Tropicana Las Vegas site.
What Comes Next
Bally’s hinted that more details about its long-term vision for the Shreveport market are on the way. Kim said the company looks forward to sharing its “broader vision and plans for the property and the market in the near future.” Whether that means a renovation, a rebrand, or a larger redevelopment of the combined site remains to be seen.
For now, the deal solidifies Bally’s position as the dominant gaming operator on Shreveport’s Red River corridor.
