Flavor Flav and MGM Resorts Announce “She Got Game” Weekend in Vegas

What started as a single social media post has quickly evolved into one of the most talked-about celebrations in women’s sports. Rapper Flavor Flav and MGM Resorts have officially announced “She Got Game,” a three-day event in Las Vegas set to honor Team USA’s female Olympians and Paralympians.
It’s clear that MGM has a mission to put its influence to good use, both in the casino world and beyond. MGM just committed $1M to responsible gambling initiatives in a major push last week. That came after MGM announced that it had reached 100% solar power for its Vegas location. Now, MGM makes a major push in ensuring female athletes are getting the recognition they deserve.
From a Tweet to a Three-Day Extravaganza
The event was sparked after Team USA declined President Donald Trump’s State of the Union invitation. Following a widely criticized phone call in which Trump appeared to dismiss the idea of honoring the U.S. Women’s Hockey Team alongside their male counterparts, Flavor Flav officially sent out an invite to the team, saying he would love to host them in Las Vegas for “a real celebration.”
His message was initially directed at the women’s hockey team, but quickly expanded to include all women medalists. More than 100 attendees have confirmed their involvement, according to Flavor Flav’s spokesperson.
MGM Resorts Steps Up as Full Partner
MGM Resorts International announced it will serve as a full partner with Flavor Flav in the Las Vegas celebration, with the resort giant committing to providing more than 100 hotel rooms from its Las Vegas portfolio to accommodate the athletes.
In a statement, MGM said: “MGM Resorts is hosting the She Got Game weekend July 16-19 in Las Vegas. Planning is underway and details will be shared soon as we get ready to celebrate our incredible USA athletes in a way only MGM Resorts knows how: world-class hospitality, high-energy fun, and memorable experiences.”
Brands and Celebrities Rally Behind the Event
The response from the corporate world has been swift. Alaska Airlines confirmed they are coordinating flights to bring athletes to Las Vegas, while StubHub stated it would help with tickets to shows. The Palms Casino Resort pledged luxury suites and fine-dining experiences to supplement MGM’s contribution.
Lyft confirmed it will provide ride codes to help transport athletes around Las Vegas, and woman-owned beauty brand Megababe committed to donating 1,000 products to girls’ and young women’s hockey leagues. Celebrities including Lance Bass and Dita Von Teese also volunteered to participate.
A GoFundMe to Put Cash in Athletes’ Pockets
Beyond the weekend itself, Flavor Flav launched a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of providing direct financial support to the athletes. Recognizing that many Olympic athletes juggle second or third jobs to fund their training, Flav set a $50,000 goal to put cash directly in their pockets, raising nearly $10,000 within just a few hours of launching.
More Than a Party
For The Gist, the women-led sports media brand serving as the event’s official media partner, “She Got Game” represents something larger than a single weekend. “Ultimately, our goal is to get these female athletes paid. So how are we creating more opportunities beyond just the weekend to have more brand deals coming in, more content created, raise the profile of a lot of these female athletes? Maybe this becomes an annual weekend in Vegas,” said co-founder Jacie DeHoop.
Flavor Flav has long been a champion of women in sport, having signed a five-year sponsorship agreement with the U.S. Women’s Water Polo Team in 2024. “She Got Game” weekend runs July 16-19 in Las Vegas, with full event details still to be announced.
