MGM Resorts Reaches 100% Daytime Solar Power on the Las Vegas Strip
MGM Resorts International has reached a major milestone in its renewable energy push, announcing that it is now powering 100% of its daytime electricity needs on the Las Vegas Strip with solar energy.
How MGM Is Powering the Las Vegas Strip With Solar
The achievement comes after MGM began sourcing power from the newly completed Escape Solar and Storage Project in Lincoln County, Nevada. The company started receiving energy from the facility in December 2025, gaining access to 115 megawatts (MW) of solar generation along with 400 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage.

When combined with MGM’s existing 100 MW Mega Solar Array, the new project more than doubles the company’s access to renewable energy. The battery storage component also allows MGM to capture excess solar power during peak production hours and deploy it later in the day, helping smooth out demand as sunlight fades.
“With this new project coming online, we are accelerating progress toward our goal of using 100% renewable electricity domestically by 2030,” said Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and President of MGM Resorts. “Together with our Mega Solar Array, the new Escape Solar and Storage Project reflects our focus on scalable, impactful clean-energy solutions.”
Hornbuckle added that the investment demonstrates how large-scale hospitality operators can reduce their environmental footprint while also strengthening long-term business stability. In an industry known for massive energy consumption, MGM’s move signals a shift toward sustainability that doesn’t sacrifice reliability or cost control.
The Escape Solar project is the result of a 25-year power purchase agreement MGM signed with Escape Solar LLC in September 2024. The long-term deal was designed to significantly expand the company’s renewable capacity and cover its Las Vegas properties’ daytime electricity needs across the Strip.

MGM has emphasized that its renewable strategy is about more than emissions reductions. The company says it is focused on lowering long-term energy costs and limiting exposure to energy price volatility, an increasingly important consideration as utility markets fluctuate.
Lower Costs, Less Volatility: The Business Case Behind MGM’s Clean Energy Push
That approach has guided MGM’s clean energy investments since 2016. In addition to the Mega Solar Array, which features more than 300,000 solar panels and supplies power to Las Vegas properties, the company has rolled out several other solar installations across its portfolio.
Those projects include 26,000 solar panels atop the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, generating 8.3 MW of electricity for the property, as well as a 100-kilowatt rooftop solar array that helps power T-Mobile Arena. Outside Nevada, MGM Springfield in Massachusetts is partially powered by 3,456 solar panels installed on the roof of its parking garage.
While the lights of the Las Vegas Strip may never dim, a growing share of the energy behind them is now coming from the sun. With Escape Solar online, MGM has taken a significant step toward its 2030 renewable electricity goal, and set a high bar for sustainability in one of the world’s most energy-intensive entertainment locations.
