Mashantucket, CT 06338

Based in Ledyard, Connecticut, Foxwoods Resort Casino is operated by Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

Facilities

The casinos at Foxwoods are split into five separate areas. These are the Fox Tower Casino, the Grand Pequot Casino, the Great Cedar Casino, the Rainmaker Casino and the recently opened Pequot Woodlands Casino.

The games available across all venues include 5,500 slot machines, 250 gaming tables, cash and tournament poker, a 2,200-seat bingo hall and keno.

The Foxwoods Resort Casino also offers sports betting with the DraftKings Sportsbook located in the Great Cedar Casino. This service is spread across two floors and 12,000 sq ft.

Also, Foxwoods launched its own online casino app, FoxPlay Casino, on both iPhone and Android devices. The app allows customers to play slot, table games, keno and bingo.

History and Renovations

Foxwoods was originally opened on July 5, 1986 as a high-stakes bingo hall on the Mashantucket Pequot reservation, only three years after the tribe was federally recognized by Congress. The tribe would partner with Lim Goh Tong, a Chinese-Malaysian businessman, in order to expand the business into a full casino.

The Foxwoods Casino would open on February 15, 1992. The new gaming floor would be opened to the public, which included table and slot games.

The venue would undergo another expansion only a few years later in 1995, with 30 high-limit table games and a dedicated poker room.

In 1997, the Grand Pequot Tower, a hotel with over 700 rooms, suites and villas was opened at the property, allowing guests to stay overnight.

Through a partnership The MGM Grand at Foxwoods building was completed in 2008, costing $700m. This added 53 table games, 1,400 slots, 825 hotel rooms, a 4,000 seat arts theatre and several hospitality outlets to the Foxwoods Resort Casino portfolio. However, this partnership did no last, and in 2013 MGM Mirage split from Foxwoods and the tribe renamed the building The Fox Tower.

In 2015, a mall was opened between the two hotel towers, named Tanger Outlets Foxwoods. The project cost $120m and features 85 brands, including Michael Kors, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger.

Most recently, the tribe has opened the new Pequot Woodlands Casino on the property, located in the Grand Pequot Concourse. This project was completed in 2023.

Tribal Information

Foxwoods Resort Casino is owned and operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, who are descendants of the Pequot tribe, with records of their people spanning back to the 1500s.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has an established governmental agency called the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Gaming Commission (MPTNGC). This Commission was created to protect the integrity of the gaming operations of the tribe and ensure that it adheres to Tribal, Federal and State rules.

The current Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Council is Rodney Butler, who has held his position since 2010.

Corporate Partners

Foxwoods Casino Resort partnered with DraftKings in 2020, despite there being strict limitations on sports betting at the time. It first opened a temporary venue at Foxwoods, before the permanent sportsbook was opened in the Great Cedar Casino area in November 2021. The partnership would also include online sports betting through the apps.

KemperSports partnered with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation on February 22, 2023 to assist with the management of the Lake of Isles, the golf course at Foxwoods.

Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen opened a venue at the Grand Pequot Tower through a partnership between Ramsay and Foxwoods Resort Casino.
