Mississippi players wager $51.6m on sports for September

The Mississippi Gaming Commission has posted its sports betting numbers from the month of September. The state generated handle of $51.6m during the month of September.

In a breakdown of wagers placed by sports, Central Mississippi players bet more on football last month than they did on any other sport. Bettors placed nearly $5.9m in wagers on football during the month.

Parlay and baseball took second and third spots for the highest number of bets, with parlay accounting for $4.8m in total bets and baseball bringing in another nearly $1.3m.

The state experienced similar trends in both the Coastal and Northern regions as well. Players in the Coastal region placed more bets on football than on any other sports category, wagering close to $19.4m. Players in Northern Mississippi bet $3.4m on football and $1.5m on parlay during the month of September.

Coastal players contributed the largest amount of wagers to the overall state handle, placing nearly $33.5m in bets.

September sports betting statewide generated nearly $8.1m in taxable revenue.

Mississippi’s casinos yielded almost $210m in adjusted gross gaming revenue during September, with the largest portion of the total coming from the Coastal region.

Casinos in the Coastal region contributed $135.4m to the combined September total. Due to September’s results, the Coastal region has surpassed the $1bn mark for the year, with three months left to go.

So far this year, Mississippi’s casinos have raked in nearly $1.88bn. March remains the highest grossing month of the year for Mississippi. Casinos in March made a total AGR of $226.8m.
