Churchill Downs Racetrack unveils plans for 150th Run for the Roses celebration
The operator plans to upgrade its Paddock and create space for additional seating.
Churchill Downs Racetrack has released details for the 150th Run for the Roses, which includes a year-long celebration in honor of the upcoming 2024 race. The Kentucky Derby began in 1875 and is known nationwide as the longest continually run US sporting event.
Churchill Downs Racetrack President Mike Anderson noted the significance of the event and said the destination remains committed to offering its guests quality entertainment.
He commented: “150 years of tradition, hospitality and the best horse racing in the world takes center stage as the Kentucky Derby celebrates an extraordinary achievement.
“To honor the significance of the anniversary, the rich history of the Derby and its place in our culture, we are excited to unveil new and enhanced guest experiences for decades to come.”
Churchill Downs said it plans to add more social areas, as well as another 3,600 new seats and 3,250 new standing-room tickets. The plans also include enhancements to Twin Spires that will give horseracing fans access to additional vantage points.
The Paddock will undergo a $200m renovation that will expand its walking ring or the horses. Churchill Downs said it plans to more than double the Paddock’s current size.
Churchill Downs Racetrack VP of Sale and Strategy Sarah Contardo said: “As we plan to celebrate our 150th anniversary in the year ahead, we are thrilled to debut new world-class hospitality opportunities to enjoy Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby.
“This transformative project will elevate the experiences for all of our fans.”
CDI is a racing, online wagering and gaming entertainment company that hosts the annual Kentucky Derby. It currently operates historical racing machines in Kentucky and was recently issued customary approving licenses by Virginia Racing Commission, the New York State Gaming Commission and the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
