Pechanga Casino Resort to host 20th Pow Wow celebration
This event highlights Native American culture from across the US.
Pechanga Casino Resort will host its Pow Wow event in Temecula, California for its 20th celebration of Native American culture, following an eight-year hiatus. The Pow Wow is free and will include Tribal singing, dancing, Native American food and artisan crafts.
The event will take place January 6-8 and will take place indoors and outdoors (weather permitting). There will be grand entries that will serve as a ceremonial opening of the festival each day, introducing participants from each of the major US Native American Tribes.
The grand entries will give the Tribes a chance to display their identities proudly, presenting their regalia, Tribal colors and dancing styles. The first grand entry begins at 8PM on Friday, January 6 – with the following entries starting at 1PM and 8PM on Saturday and 1PM Sunday.
Pechanga Development Corporation President Andrew Masiel Sr. commented: “The Pow Wow allows the neighboring general public to experience a culture that they may not have been aware of or had the opportunity to experience in person.”
Sandra Hale, the owner of Lucy’s Hale Indian Tacos & Frybread, who’ll be vending at the festival, said she’s excited to see Pechanga’s Pow Wow springing into action once again.
Hale commented: “Pechanga has excelled, and it makes me happy that we are still a part of it.” The event will also feature a firework display, which Hale says is one of the most exciting parts of the Pow Wow.
She remarked: “It’s fun because when the fireworks go out, I remember people would scream, and it lasted a long time. These fireworks are better than Disneyland.”
