Arizona sports betting rakes in $540m for September
The state gaming department reported significant increases year-over-year.
The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) has published its September sports betting results. The numbers indicate upward trends in wagering habits among Arizona residents.
During September, Arizona bettors wagered close to $540m on sporting events, according to the report. This month’s results reflected an 84.7% boost year-over-year.
The state also reported that it collected more than $3m in privilege fees during the month.
ADG Direct Ted Vogt noted that September represented a “strong month” for the state and said Arizona players wagered $245m more during the month than they did a year ago.
Vogt went on to add that he is looking forward to what is to come during the next several months, as winter sports kick into high gear.
He concluded by saying: “I am excited to see how the industry progresses through the winter months, which generally has the most popular sports for wagering in the United States.”
However, bettors in September did not exceed the state’s high watermark, set at the beginning of the year. January remains the best month for the state, with bettors placing $563.7m in sportsbook wagers, according to the Arizona Department of Gaming.
The ADG was established in 1995 by the Arizona state legislature as a regulatory agency for event wagering, fantasy sports, tribal gaming, racing and pari-mutuel wagering.
