National Council on Problem Gambling to provide $120,000 to three organizations
Its Agility Grant program is funded by the NFL Foundation, with extra support from FanDuel.
The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) will be providing $120,000 in funding to three organizations, in support of problem gambling prevention programs, through its Agility Grant Initiative.
The Agility Grant program is the first-ever program to offer national grants for the purpose of problem gambling prevention. It is funded by the NFL Foundation, with additional support from FanDuel, and will award $1m over three years to establish and expand gambling prevention programs across the US.
Agility Grants are tailor designed for programs seeking to minimize harm on a primary level. This means among those who have not yet dabbled in gambling, or – on a secondary level – among those who have limited gambling experience.
NCPG Executive Director Keith Whyte commented: “Problem gambling among youth has emerged as a significant and growing public health issue. Research has shown that prevention strategies produce the greatest impact.
“We applaud the recipients of these Agility Grants for working to address problem gambling at the source and hope that this support will increase their impact on the community.”
Approximately 60% of high-school adolescents report they have gambled for money in the past year and statistics show that 10-14% of adolescents are at risk of developing gambling problems. Unfortunately, 4-6% are already showing signs that they may be problem gamblers.
NFL SVP of Social Responsibility Anna Isaacson commented: “We’re proud to support the NCPG’s important work through this unique program which aims to combat problem gambling, particularly in young adults and adolescents.
“These Agility Grants will provide critical funds to three very worthy organizations who share our desire to curb problem gambling through proactive outreach and education.”
The Fall 2022 Agility Grant awards provide the second round of prevention grant funding from the NCPG. Successful applications must be aligned closely with NCPG’s vision of improving health and wellness, by reducing the economic, social and personal costs of problem gambling.
