Rain Rock Casino breaks ground ahead of scheduled 2024 opening
Its owners, the Karuk Tribe, hope that the casino will bring economic benefit to Siskiyou County.
The Rain Rock Casino in Yreka, California broke ground last Friday in the first phase of its transformation from a pit stop casino to a premier travel destination. The casino is owned by the Karuk Tribe and they hope its success will provide them with greater financial stability, with benefits also spilling over to Siskiyou County.
Projected to be complete in 2024, the Rain Rock Casino will boast over 80 rooms, VIP cabins, a pool, and a convention center. Yreka Mayor Duane Kegg believes this venue will create more jobs and circulate more money for the residents of Yreka city.
Kegg commented: “For every dollar spent in Yreka, 75% will get recirculated back into this community so it’s huge. For them to expand on this just means more value for the city of Yreka. Bringing people that would not normally stop in Yreka are now stopping in Yreka so it’s huge all the way around.”
The mayor believes that the small city will “explode” into a destination resort, as it already has the advantage of being located in a picturesque part of Northern California. Karuk Tribe Chairman Buster Attebery agrees with the sentiment that the Rain Rock Casino should positively impact the economy of Siskiyou County.
Attebery commented: “It’s a great opportunity to create more jobs in Siskiyou County and more opportunities for the people who live here and the people that want to come back to this beautiful place.
“The ultimate goal is to make Siskiyou County and the city of Yreka a better place and make some contributions to those efforts and most of all a way of self-sufficiency for the Karuk Tribe.”
