Nevada approves Counter-Strike esports wagers

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has approved wagers on Counter-Strike-ESL Pro League Season 11: North America.

The move comes as mass sporting cancellations deprive sportsbooks – both in Nevada and across the world – from offering their usual markets, due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Because of the ease of esports events taking place online and from home, however, the vertical provides operators with the chance of a steady revenue source at a difficult time.

As such, the NGCB has allowed a number of markets to be offered on one of the major Counter-Strike leagues, with licensed sportsbooks needing to notify the regulator of their intention to offer markets first.

Only pre-match wagers will be allowed, as the NGCB states bets must “cease prior to the commencement of each match.”

William Hill US has quickly added esports to its updated wagering menu in Nevada.
