Internet Vikings launches iGaming operation in Michigan
This falls in line with the company’s plans for continuing US expansion.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board has completed its evaluation for Internet Vikings and issued the Swedish provider with a valid license to operate iGaming in the state.
Michigan is currently one of the largest US iGaming markets in the county, making it a coveted territory for operators. The state’s online sportsbooks handle for December saw a 2.3% increase month-over-month, climbing to $485m. Its iGaming gross revenue for 2021 reached $121.8m.
Company Founder and CCO Rickard Vikström said: “We are thrilled to have secured our positions in yet another US territory. We consider the establishment of our operations in Michigan being a major win.”
Elena Kvakova, the Head of the US expansion for Internet Vikings said: “In addition to high revenues, Michigan is one of just six states in America which specifically allow online casinos.”
Internet Vikings is also live in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Connecticut, as well as in the Canadian province of Ontario.
Suppliers are not required to possess any type of license if they want to operate in Michigan as they do in other gaming-compliant states. However, all online casinos and all companies or individuals working within Michigan’s industry must have a vendor license regardless of the level or size of the business.
“Recognizing the state as the next important strategic step in our US expansion, after studying the relevant legislation and obtaining the required documentation since April, we worked as a team to establish our next US base,” said Kvakova.
