Kambi CEO weighs in on the arrival of legal online betting in the Empire State
Kambi, with partner Rush Street Interactive, will vie for a slice of the NY pie.
The industry is giddy at the prospect of legal mobile sports betting to the state of New York.
In one fell swoop, the national landscape has changed. New York will now be the most populous state in the country to offer legalized betting. Furthermore, the Empire State has a robust roster of professional sports teams – ten, if you include soccer – and legions of ardent fans.
Unsurprisingly, industry leaders are jockeying to get a piece of the pie.
Kambi, through their partnership with Rush Street Interactive, is an operator that obtained one of the four initial licenses.
Kambi CEO Kristian Nylén commented to Gaming America on his hopes for the new market: “Being selected to operate in New York by the New York State Gaming Commission underlines the high quality, integrity, and reliability of Kambi’s sports betting technology. And I’m delighted that Kambi will be up and running on day one of the market, in time for the business end of the NFL season.”
Nylén went on to note the uniqueness of the market: “New York is among the most populated and sports passionate states in the US and will no doubt be one of the largest regulated wagering markets in North America, one we are both excited and honored to be playing a leading role in.”
One lingering question surrounding the arrival of mobile betting to New York is how neighboring states – industry juggernauts like New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut – are going to affected by the change.
