Municipality of Forquilhinha to create municipal lottery from 2026
It comes following the approval of City Council Bill No. 105/2025.
The Municipality of Forquilhinha, Brazil, has sent a Bill to the City Council that will see the development of a municipal lottery from 2026.
City Council Bill No. 105/2025, which was approved, allows for the development of the Municipal Lottery Public Service next year. The goal is to increase revenue and resources for local investment in Forquilhinha, while avoiding tax increases in the municipality.
It has been specified that the Executive Branch is authorized to explore lottery options directly or via a concession, which can be acquired through a public bid. Such bids for a local lottery license have been shown to be fierce affairs across the globe, with the price for Italy’s national lottery concession, which was won by IGT earlier this year, coming with a licensing fee of over €2bn ($2.33bn).
It is expected that the concession term will last 20 years and may be renewed based on public interest.
The move comes as interest in lottery continues to develop in Brazil.
Earlier this month, Lottopar released a radio campaign promoting safer gambling in the country, raising awareness of the impact of illegal betting. Lottopar is the state lottery for Paraná, in Southern Brazil. The campaign was developed in partnership with the State Secretariat for Public Security (SESP).
On the campaign, Lottopar CEO Daniel Romanowski said, “Our mission at Lottopar is twofold, to ensure that gambling is a safe, transparent activity for citizens and to act decisively against anyone who tries to break the law. The partnership with SESP strengthens our oversight and this radio campaign brings that message to every corner of Paraná.”
