Independiente Soccer Club distances itself from Sportsbet investigation

Argentinian judicial authorities are examining alleged illegal online betting activities involving minors linked to accounts operating under the name Sportsbet, while Club Atlético Independiente confirmed that the company appears among its commercial sponsors but said it has not been notified of any judicial action against the club.
According to case information made public by local media, the inquiry is being led by prosecutors in Greater Buenos Aires and focuses on social media recruitment and promotion of unlicensed betting to minors.
Investigators have reported searches, device seizures and a review of accounts allegedly used to channel wagers. At this stage, the proceedings target individuals and entities tied to the purported operation; no charges have been announced against the football club.
The club said its link to the brand is limited to a standard sponsorship agreement and that the institution neither intervenes in nor has visibility over any third-party marketing outside the scope of club assets. The club added that it complies with applicable rules on advertising and will cooperate with authorities if requested.
The case is linked to the arrest of Matías Gabriel Garcilazo, a social media influencer and Airport Security Police officer, accused of leading a criminal organization that recruited minors into illegal betting through Instagram and YouTube.
The network allegedly operated under the name Sportsbet, promoting betting lines via Telegram and WhatsApp and employing cashiers to resell betting chips to underage players. The investigation resulted in nine arrests, over sixty charges, and the seizure of electronic devices and cash.
