September iGaming wagers in Canada up 5% despite NAGGR dip

Statistics regarding the state of iGaming in The Great Lakes Province have been released by iGaming Ontario.
Wagers for the month totaled CA$8.55bn (US$6.11bn), up 5% month-over-month. Non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) came to CA$329.4m, down 2%, with average revenue per active player dropping notably, down 15% to CA$282, despite active player accounts growing 15% to 1.17 million.
By product, casino wagers came to CA$7.34bn, up 2% month-over-month and accounting for 86% of the market share. Betting, meanwhile, skyrocketed, up 39% to CA$1.06bn, accounting for 12% of the market. P2P Poker, which accounts for the remaining 2% of the market, handled CA$144m in wagers in September, down 4% month-over-month.
Despite the uptick in wagers, betting NAGGR was down 23% to CA$46.5m. P2P Poker was affected even more so, down 25% to $5.1m, while casino NAGGR remained relatively on par with the amount wagered, making CA$277.8m, up 4% and accounting for 84% of the market share.
Year-over-year, wagers have increased 30.1% from CA$6.54bn, while NAGGR has grown 20.1% from CA$274m. Active player accounts have also increased, up 36.2%, yet despite that, average revenue per customer account has declined, down 11.9%.
These figures come as Ontario continues to develop its iGaming market, having been the first province to legalize it in April 2024. The market has since taken on 50 legal operators and hosts 88 legal gaming sites, according to the most recent statistics. New entrants to the market include Absolutebet, while companies including Playson and PowerPlay have continued to develop their presence there.
