Washington D.C. sports betting handle grows 27% in October

This month marks a record handle for the district
The Washington D.C. Lottery has revealed the district’s sports betting numbers for the month of October.
The month has seen the United States capital reach $26.3m in sports betting handle, breaking its previous record. These numbers reflect a 27.2% boost from September’s $20.7m
Among the district’s operators, Caesars Sportsbook in the Captial One Arena totaled $19.07m from 197,952 total wagers. This led to a prizes and payouts of $18m and a Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) of $926,151. That District of Columbia then took $92,615 in tax revenue.
This $19.07m handle adds to the total $122.8m the operator has recorded so far in 2021, coming from 1.3 million wagers. On top of this, the operator’s total GGR for the year is $14.8m as of October, raising $1.4m for the city.
As for BetMGM, who first entered DC in June and opened a sportsbook at the Grand Central sports bar in October, the operator saw approximately 38,000 total wagers throughout its two locations. This resulted in a total handle of $1.7m for October and a GGR of around $72,000.
For the year so far, BetMGM has a GGR of approximately $345,000, leading to a tax contribution of just over $37,000.
In total, these numbers mark a 42% year-on-year growth and 27% monthly growth in sports betting handle.
