Wynn Resort Las Vegas dealers to join Workers of America labor union

96% of workers voted to join.
Table game dealers for Wynn Resort Las Vegas have overwhelmingly voted to join the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America labor union (UAW).
The decision to join the union of over 10,000 workers will allow table games dealers to keep their tips and have their hours shortened. Importantly, the union will protect against workers having to require giving 12% of tips to management staff. This policy, established by the company’s founder Steve Wynn, has been the topic of two lawsuits.
“Union members deserve a contract that honors and respects our long years of loyalty and excellent service,” said Kanie Kastroll, spokesperson for the Wynn Resorts workers. “The members have just secured that workers’ contract, and the peace of mind that comes with it, overwhelmingly.”
The lawsuits regarding tip payment were resolved this year as Wynn Resorts paid out $5.6m.
While the dealers have chosen to join with the UAW, other workers in the gaming industry such as general staff, housekeepers, bartenders and chefs already work with the Culinary Union. The UAW also works within a number of other properties throughout Las Vegas such as Bally’s, Caesars Palace, Flamingo, Harrah’ and MGM Grand.
This news comes as Wynn begins its new multi-media marketing campaign. This effort to push the company’s sports betting platform, WynnBET, stars Shaquille O’Neal, Ben Affleck and Melvin Greg. The campaign will feature a number of ads directed by Affleck.
WynnBET is currently available in New Jersey, Colorado, Michigan, Virginia, Indiana and Tennessee, with plans to expand further throughout 2021.
