Wynn to relax mask wearing measures for vaccinated guests

Wynn Resorts will no longer require fully vaccinated guests to wear masks at its Las Vegas properties, becoming the first Strip operator to make such a change to its Covid-19 pandemic mask wearing policy.
Wynn’s decision comes after the Centers for Disease Control said Thursday that fully vaccinated Americans do not have to continue wearing masks in most indoor and outdoor settings.
The CDC’s mask relaxation policy does not apply to federal, state, tribal, or local settings where restrictions are still enforced.
Wynn’s decision to relax its policy came hours after the Nevada Gaming Control Board said it would no longer enforce a mask mandate, in coordination with orders from Gov. Steve Sisolak. Instead, the GCB will leave the decision in the hands of individual casinos.
“The Board neither requires nor prohibits gaming licensees from confirming patron vaccination status. Licensees are encouraged to post signage with the latest CDC mask guidance for vaccinated and unvaccinated guests,” the GCB said.
Wynn said in a statement, “The resort trusts guests to take the appropriate precautions based on their personal vaccination status.”
Wynn will allow fully vaccinated employees to no longer wear masks at work.
Several Las Vegas casinos include Wynn and Encore have obtained wavers from the GCB to return to 100% casino floor occupancy. The wavers are dependent on a 80% vaccination rate among employees of an operator.
Wynn, Caesars Entertainment, MGM Resorts and Boyd Gaming have all been cleared to return to 100% occupancy on their casinos with no social distancing.
An 80% capacity limit is still in effect in other areas of Las Vegas resorts such as restaurants and retail centers. Those limits will disappear on June 1, according to an order last month from Gov. Sisolak.
Nevada has seen its number of new Covid-19 infections drop over the last month even as more residents receive vaccinations.
On May 12 the state reported 213 new daily cases on a 14-day moving average, according to Nevada Health Response. That’s the lowest average since June 2020.
Approximately 2.3m vaccination doses have been administered and 1m people, or 33% of the population, is fully vaccinated.
